What: Old Testament Survey
When: Tuesday, September 1 @ 7 PM: Zoom syllabus review

Time: 10-4 each gathering

In this course students will learn the basics of Old Testament biblical interpretation. This will
include the important background information of the biblical text, the structure of the Old
Testament narrative, and various interpretive approaches to the Old Testament. Students will also
use this introductory information to create a sermon based on an Old Testament text.
Required texts:
- a gender-inclusive translation of the Bible, such as: NRSV (1989), NRSVue (2022), NCV (1991), NLT
(1996), TNIV (2005), CEB (2011), NIV (2011).
- Goldingay, John. An Introduction to the Old Testament: Exploring Text, Approaches, and
Issues. Downers Grove, IL: IVP Academic, 2015.
